Cluttons is currently recruiting for a Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environmental Manager in our London office. The role will be required to undertake a full range of duties appropriate to the provision of health, safety and sustainability in the workplace and for properties that we manage on behalf of Clients, in accordance with applicable statutory obligations, emerging legislation and ‘good-practice’ guidelines.


You will be the firm’s ‘Subject Matter Expert’ for energy/sustainability related issues and responsible for the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Phase Two submission for the firm.  In addition, you will advise external clients, mentor the HSSE Coordinators, undertake Workstation Assessments and work with the contracted-out Facilities Management provider to ensure statutory compliance within Cluttons' offices.


  • Responsible for the firm-wide Environmental Management System under ISO 14001 accreditation inclusive of:
    • Responsibility for monitoring and reporting on Cluttons energy, waste-streams and paper management (inclusive of other Targets & programmes identified for ISO 14001 accreditation).
    • Ensuring targets and programmes are met whether through formal targeting, projects or via specific programmes
    • Ensuring that the management and other reviews take place in a good and timely manner
    • Develop the Safety Management System towards compliance with the upcoming ISO 45001 standard
  • Successfully manage the electronic property database “RiskWise” inclusive of:
    • Covering all employee H&S issues across the UK offices together with maintenance issues at those premises
    • Review the monthly report from RiskWise to examine trends and to take necessary corrective actions
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and review of the HSSE Intranet pages and relevant documentation
  • Provision of HSSE support to the business in the following key areas:
    • Incident & accident investigations
    • Meeting with the various Enforcement Agencies (Local Authorities, London Fire Brigade, Health & safety Executive Etc.)
  • Ensure that our supply chain / procurement system is up to date with competent contractors and suppliers using the “SafeContractor” “SSIP” process
  • Prepare tender submissions inclusive of advice to the business as required
  • Attend committees, working parties etc.
  • Support the Property Managers with practical assistance in resolving HSSE issues
  • Participate in and monitor corrective actions arising out of audits and risk assessments
  • Monitor changes in legislation/ best practice and update key stakeholders as required
  • Ensuring that Cluttons external HSSE accreditations are met and maintained inclusive of “SafeContractor” & “Achilles UVDB”
  • Produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins including the monthly board reports
  • Support all relevant Learning & Development interventions for the business inclusive of:
    • Development and implementation of training modules
    • Lead administrator & technical expert in our e-learning system


  • Minimum graduate member of IOSH (GradIOSH) or equivalent professional qualification
  • Environmental qualifications/credentials
  • “IEMA” Membership (or be working towards it)
  • Ideally a Member of The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM)
  • Working towards NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (desirable)
  • Demonstrable track record of working within a UK based property consultancy, property management or facilities management organisation
  • In depth understanding and implement of health & safety legislation
  • Track record of premises inspections, requiring in depth knowledge of legislation and its practical implementation
  • Evidence of successfully gaining and maintaining an ISO accreditation(s) (inclusive of 14001) or equivalent
  • Ability to provide advice on a wide range HSSE matters through knowledge and research
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships at all levels
  • Able to organise and administer a complex work programme, working independently and as part of a team
  • Highly proficient in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
